10.Lethal Inspection

Season 5 – Episode 6: One of the newer episodes of Futurama which showcases a relationship in the series we rarely get to experience between Hermes and Bender. In the episode Bender learns that he is subject to a terminal manufacturing defect, effectively rendering him mortal. Bender must cope with his new found mortality and employs Hermes Conrad’s help to track down the mysterious quality inspector—Inspector #5—whom he blames for allowing him to enter the world only to die. Without spoiling too much, the episode is fairly touching.

9. Parasites Lost

Season 3 – Episode 2: Truly one of the most memorable Futurama episodes of all time! Fry purchases a egg salad sandwich from a ‘truck stop men’s room’ while at a space station where his body becomes host to a power parasite… The parasites improve Fry in pretty much every way possible which causes Leela to start falling for Fry while Professor Farnsworth and the rest of the team embark on a mission inside Fry’s body to eliminate the parasite. While The Professor attempts to destroy the Pelvic splanchnic ganglion, Leela attempts to stop them so Fry can stay perfect.

8. Insane in the Mainframe

Season 3 – Episode 11: A brilliant and truly hilarious episode of Futurama. Bender and Fry are caught up in a robbery involving the delightful character Roberto and both wind up being sent to a ROBOT criminal insane asylum. The robot supervisors refuse to believe Fry is a human so do not treat him as such. Fry eventually ends up believing in fact that he is a Robot so offers his friends to “ingest sandwiches from his compartment” and eventually battles Roberto. All the scenes in the insane asylum are just awesome and Fry’s experience is side splitting.

7. Obsoletely Fabulous

Season 4 – Episode 14: When Bender is put to shame by Mom’s new 1-X robot he is forced to get an upgrade as Professor Farnsworth purchases one. During the upgrade though Bender chickens out, sailing out to sea until finding an island inhabited by a race of obsolete robot folk. After falling for their simple way of life, Bender decides to get a downgrade and declare war on the modern technological world. The episode is filled with laughs and a great episode for Bender fans out there.

6. Mars University

Season 1 – Episode 11: When the Planet Express team’s latest job is to deliver a crate to Professor Farnsworth’s at Mars University where Fry decides to enrol since he has always previously been a college drop out. Bender become reacquainted with his old Robot halls and helps the uncool robots such as Fat Bot try and gain a better reputation around campus. Professor Farnsworth’s crate is revealed to contain his latest experiment, a super intelligent Monkey called Günter who Fry is in a very funny competition with constantly. It is disappointing that the Günter character never returns after this episode but we can’t help but notice a striking resemblance between his character and the later introduced Cubert Farnsworth (Professor Farnsworth’s Clone).

5. Hell is other Robots

Season 1 – Episode 9: An episode featuring one of the best characters in the whole series, the Robot Devil. In this episode we see Bender hit rock bottom, getting hooked on a Class-A addictive substance for robots… Electricity. When Bender eventually finds religion in the episode, it is extremely funny to see Bender in a completely opposite role as a good guy. Naturally Fry and Leela miss benders old ways so attempt to convert him back with robbery, ‘hooker bots’ and booze which Bender falls for almost straight away. Punishment ensues however as Bender is taken to robot hell for all his misdeeds and abandoning his religion where the Robot Devil sings a delightful song about his lifetime of bad behaviour.

4. The Problem with Popplers

Season 2 – Episode 15: When Fry, Leela and Bender land on a previously undiscovered planet with their bellies rumbling they pursue a quest for food. They come across a meat ball type food which Fry decides to name ‘Popplers’. As ‘Popplers’ quickly become a huge success all over Earth, Leela soon finds out that Popplers are actually the offspring of the fearful Omicronians who demand to eat one human for everyone of their young eaten. Lrrr first demans 198 Billion humans and a small fries but after filling up on nuts at the negotiations Lrrr demands only to eat the first person who ate their young. That person being Leela. In an attempt to trick the Omicronians, Zapp dresses up an orang-utan to look like Leela for them to eat instead.

3. I Dated A Robot!

Season 3 – Episode 15: If you just look at the picture below of Fry being chased by ‘Lucy-Lu Bots’ you’ll realise that this episode is fantastic. This particular episode is home to my favourite Futurama quote of all time in fact when Fry’s robot he falls in love with is dying and her last words are: “I will always remember you Fry… MEMORY DELETED”. A can’t talk about this episode without also mentioning another quote from Fry’s Lucy-Lu bot of “Oh Fry, I love you more than the Moon and the Stars and the POETIC IMAGE NUMBER THIRTY SEVEN NOT FOUND”. The episode also reveals how the internet will function in the year 3000 which is a very interesting interpretation to say the least.

2. Fry and the Slurm Factory

Season 1 – Episode 13: Futurama’s take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fry and the Slurm Factory is a painfully funny episode with some fantastic characters. The golden ticket in a chocolate bar is replaced with a golden bottle cap in a Slurm can which Fry and Bender search for desperately, a task they find much easier when they get a hold of Professor Farnsworth’s ‘F-Ray’ which can see through nearly any material.

1. Amazon Woman In The Mood

Season 3 – Episode 1: There really is no doubt in selecting the best episode ever of Futurama. Amazon Woman In The Mood will easily have you crying with laughter, it is pure Futurama perfection. With Zapp Branigan at the forefront of the episode the laughs are guaranteed! Leela and Amy agree to go on a double date with Zapp and Kiff at an orbiting space restaurant where everyone aboard evacuates when Zapp attempts to sing The Kink’s ‘Lola’. Zapp then takes to flying the restaurant and inevitably crashes it into an uncharted planet inhabited by Amazon Woman who, as I’m sure you can guess are ‘In the mood’…

Fry, Bender, Zapp and Kiff are taken into captivity by the Amazon Woman and presented to their leader, the Femputer, a wall sized female computer system. Femputer sentences the men to ‘death by snu-snu’ which causes a mix of happiness and horror amongst them! Bender escapes the fate by pointing out the fact that he is a robot. The episode showcases the skeletons of the previous men who were subject to the fate and their crushed pelvises (see picture below).

You’ll have to watch the rest of the episode to see how it all turns out but the laughs never stop in this episode, all the characters gel and work really well together.
